Volunteering Saves Lives in our Community
It's National Volunteer Week, and Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is spotlighting the contributions of its dedicated volunteers and encouraging our community to get involved and support non-profit organizations in our region. From April 21-27, we will celebrate the impact of volunteerism and express gratitude to those who generously give their time and talents to support our life-saving mission.
Volunteers are the backbone of Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, offering vital support and services that enable our organization to continue to serve the community. Their selfless dedication helps fulfill Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center's mission to save lives, and their passion for helping others is truly inspiring.
This year, we are honored to share the journey of two exceptional volunteers, Louise and Patrick. Their son needed life-saving blood transfusions, and that experience ignited their path to volunteering.
"Because our son, Joe, received blood transfusions, I learned about the importance of blood donations," said Louise. "Joe needed many platelets during his treatment. It made me realize how vital it was. I understood the importance and necessity of it (blood). My personal experience with our son and realizing how blood affects so many people's lives, volunteering is a way for me to give back," stated Louise.
Louise and Patrick started volunteering at the National Marrow Donor Program in California after their son underwent treatment. Today, they support Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and contribute to our daily operations. Their dedication benefits our community and strengthens our healthcare system.
Patrick likes to volunteer at The Blood Center because the staff is friendly and lets him know the difference he makes through his volunteer efforts. "Volunteering makes you realize how important blood products are to our community," Patrick said.
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center volunteers have the opportunity to work with diverse groups of people, make new friends, and contribute to causes they are passionate about. Additionally, volunteering can enhance one's health and well-being, develop leadership skills, and provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is always in need of dedicated individuals aged 12 and above to join our Commit for Life Volunteer Program. Whether assisting at blood drives, speaking at events, or delivering blood products to hospitals, our volunteers are the lifeblood of our operations. Their invaluable contributions play a pivotal role in our mission to save lives.
National Volunteer Week serves as a reminder to recognize and celebrate the contributions of volunteers. Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center encourages the community to explore volunteer opportunities and discover the rewarding experience of giving back.
