Gulf Coast Blood is the only blood provider to Houston and its surrounding communities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We are one of the largest community blood centers in the United States, serving 170 hospitals and healthcare facilities in a 26-county area, including the largest medical center in the world, Texas Medical Center. Service areas include Gulf Coast Blood East Texas and Gulf Coast Blood Brazos Valley.
Patients and donors come first in everything we do. Gulf Coast Blood is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to a safe, respectful, and comfortable donation experience. Donors can relax with personal TVs, blankets, and snacks, and we are continuing to enhance comfort and convenience. New enhancements are available now at Gulf Coast Blood – Texas Medical Center with a rollout to additional donor centers planned in the future. Features include Teagan, our AI avatar that answers donor questions, a Bevi drink station, and added comfort options like massage chairs and aromatherapy. Together, these improvements create a smoother, more welcoming experience that helps donors feel appreciated from start to finish.
We recently introduced our No Donor Left Behind program to make sure every person who comes in ready to give can still make an impact. If someone isn’t eligible to donate blood for transfusion that day, we now offer an alternative option: a smaller donation that supports lifesaving research. These research donations help fuel scientific studies that may lead to better treatments or even cures for diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s, so no one has to leave feeling turned away. By giving donors another meaningful way to help, No Donor Left Behind honors every donor’s time and generosity, reduces frustration from deferrals, and keeps more caring people connected to our mission to save lives.
Meeting local demand takes about 1,000 blood donations per day. U.S. blood donors are unpaid volunteers, and each donation supports critical care such as surgeries, cancer treatments, and emergency procedures.
Join Commit for Life, a community partnership with Gulf Coast Blood focused on protecting Houston’s blood supply today and for the future.
