Gulf Coast Blood Honors Marsha Asplin for 200-Gallon Milestone

HOUSTON, Texas — Gulf Coast Blood proudly celebrated a once-in-a-lifetime milestone today: Marsha Asplin has donated an astonishing 1,600 units of blood, equivalent to 200 gallons, over her 42-year journey with the organization. She’s the first woman in the organization’s history to reach this milestone and only the second donor to ever achieve the 200-gallon mark with Gulf Coast Blood.
A special event was held to honor Marsha’s dedication. Gulf Coast Blood’s leadership team presented her with a commemorative mug, a certificate of appreciation, and a special award recognizing her extraordinary impact on the community.
Marsha began donating blood in 1983, and her generous contributions have impacted up to 4,800 lives — a number that reflects the power of compassion and consistency.
But her service doesn’t stop at donations. Since 2004, Marsha has also volunteered an incredible 19,133 hours with the Gulf Coast Blood, offering her time and energy to support the mission of saving lives.
“Marsha’s dedication over the years is both humbling and inspiring,” said Kevin Shipley, Associate Vice President of Community Engagement at Gulf Coast Blood. “Her 200-gallon milestone and thousands of hours of volunteer work are a powerful testament to the impact one person can have. Marsha is not only a hero — she’s part of the heartbeat of our organization.”
Gulf Coast Blood serves more than 170 hospitals and healthcare institutions in 26 counties across Texas. Volunteers and donors like Marsha are essential in ensuring patients receive the lifesaving treatments they need every day.
We are honored to recognize Marsha Asplin — a true champion for our community.
